A closeup of Newspaper Rock (Not to be confused with the Newspaper Rock in the Petrified National Forest in Arizona) along the road into the Needles Unit of Canyonlands.
A miniature arch rock formation, it was maybe a couple of feet tall.
Some very odd rocks.
Dead tree! I love dead trees!
The lighting was sucktastic most of the day while I was in the park. To make matters more entertaining, it threatened to rain while I was out hiking on the slickrock.

Cryptobiotic crust surrounding another plant.
The bark was spiralling around the tree.
This was one of the most powerful experiences I had when I was out in Utah. There were a number of petroglyphs next to a spring, under a large overhang of rock. These hand prints were only four feet off of the ground, and only inches away from me. Knowing that a person left the outline of their hands 800 years before was really moving. It was so tempting to put my hand up to the wall, but that would have damaged the art.
The little pile of rocks are known as Kairns, and they are used throughout the National Park System in Utah to mark the paths. This was a particularly elaborate display on top of the rock that was above the hand prints.
The late afternoon sun started to break through the clouds.
Snow storms streaming off of a mountain top.

The weird white rocks earlier were a part of this plateau.
I was hoping that I would see some wild mountain sheep out here, but alas, it was not to pass.
